How to handle my 7 month old?

My son, Lennox, is 7 months old and all he does he cry. This has been going on since he was about 2 months old. He is just fussy, everyone says......I say he is a grumpy mean baby. He will not play on his own, he cries! he cries while he eats unless it is fruit. He cries when you put him to sleep, and as soon as he wakes up. He likes store, so I try to take him out when I can, but I have a husband and two year old and house to take care of. I have no clue what to do. He cries if I hold him or if I do not. The Dr. says its normal?? Has this happened to you or someone you know and what did you do? Please help me!
